Fire Extinguisher Training course

Course Overview

 

The Fire Extinguisher Training course is designed to prepare participants with the essential skills and knowledge to respond to workplace fire emergencies using first-attack firefighting equipment. The training focuses on identifying different types of fires, selecting the appropriate fire-fighting equipment, and safely operating portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, and fire blankets.

To ensure the course aligns with industry best practices, this course has been mapped to the national unit of competencies:

  • PUAFER008: Confine small emergencies in a facility.

  • CPPFES2005: Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment.

 

Who Should Attend?

 

This course is suitable for individuals who are responsible for leading an emergency response in the workplace, including:

  • All employees in a workplace as part of fire and emergency preparedness.

  • Fire Wardens or the members of the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO)

  • WHS Officers & Facility Managers.

  • Health and Safety Representatives.

  • Anyone looking to improve their emergency response capabilities and safety awareness.

Course Objectives

 

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the types and classes of fires and understand fire behaviour

  • Select and use appropriate first-attack firefighting equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, hose reels, fire blankets)

  • Understand the different types of extinguishers (e.g., water, foam, dry chemical, CO₂) and their correct application

  • Safely operate firefighting equipment in simulated emergency scenarios

  • Apply workplace procedures for responding to fire incidents

  • Assess fire situations and determine whether it is safe to attempt extinguishment or evacuate

Assessment

Participants will be assessed through:

  1. A written knowledge assessment covering foundational knowledge of fire safety and the correct use of first-attack firefighting equipment.

  2. Practical activities where participants must demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively use firefighting equipment.

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the course and the post-course assessment, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.

 

NOTE. Courtenell is not a Registered Training Organisation (RTO.) A Statement of Attainment is not able to be issued on this training. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a Certificate of Completion.
