Why do this course?
A health and safety committee helps an organisation to instigate and develop policy, plans, and procedures for the workplace on health and safety.
Representatives from the workforce work with management so management has the information needed to make informed decisions that protect the health and safety of all individuals in the workplace and ensure the organisation remains compliant with legal obligations.
Consultation on WHS matters is a mandatory requirement of every business no matter how large or small.
An HSC is made up of representatives of the business and representatives from the workforce. HSRs are included as worker representatives. Any person can be an HSC member if they are involved in WHS consultation.
New HSC members may not have any WHS familiarity or experience. This course teaches WHS principles that an HSC member needs to know in order to be a valuable contributor to matters that are tabled at the committee meetings as per Section 77 of the NSW WHS Act 2011.
Course Aims
To provide participants with the necessary information to participate as a member of their Health and Safety Committee (HSC) and be knowledgeable about the role of the HSC to assist with the development of company policy, programs, plans, and measures for the successful continuance of the WHS management system, including how the HSC may also assist the business (PCBU) to consult with all persons in the workforce on matters of health and safety.
